President Guidolin: “In a complex context, the supply chain has proven its unity. Sustainability and value remain our priorities.”
Treviso, January 9, 2026 – Prosecco DOC closes 2025 with 667 million bottles bottled (+1.1% compared to 2024), confirming its position as the best-selling Italian sparkling wine in the world. This figure is particularly significant in a context marked by geopolitical instability, inflation, customs duties, and pressure on consumption.
“In a year characterized by significant global economic instability, our Denomination has demonstrated resilience,” comments Giancarlo Guidolin, President of the Prosecco DOC Consortium. “This is the result of the concerted efforts of the entire supply chain: winegrowers, winemakers, and sparkling wine producers. It is only thanks to this synergy that we can face complex international scenarios with balance and foresight.”

Production figures:
Prosecco DOC: 606,891,509 bottles
Prosecco DOC Rosé: 60,360,239 bottles
Exports: mixed trends on international markets
Data relating to international markets for the period January-September 2025 show mixed trends. The United States remains the leading market (23.8% of exports) with growth of 8.0%, despite volatility linked to the introduction of tariffs. The United Kingdom (+1.1%) and France follow, with France achieving significant growth of +21.1% to take third place, ahead of Germany (+3.1%). Positive performances were also recorded in other markets, both established and emerging, such as Greece (+22.4%) and Mexico (+14.5%). Some markets, on the other hand, are experiencing a period of contraction, reflecting specific geopolitical and economic dynamics.
Protection: monitoring and combating irregularities
The protection of the Prosecco DOC has always been a strategic priority for the Consortium. To combat the trivialization and exploitation of the brand, in 2025 the Consortium intensified its global surveillance with concrete results:
- 192 internal checks, including investigations, sampling, and online verification
- 4,961 listings monitored on global marketplaces, with 438 irregular offers removed
- 57 enforcement actions on 115 detected imitation brands
- 115 warnings for improper use of the name “Prosecco” in non-wine sectors (cosmetics, candles, mobile bars)
- 67 reports to the ICQRF for violations in the European Union
The strengthening of international protection in over 100 countries also involves the adoption of the new state mark with QR code, a cutting-edge tool that ensures traceability, authenticity, and transparency to safeguard the reputation of the DOC.
Towards Sustainable Community certification
The Consortium is pursuing an innovative path towards Sustainable Community certification according to the ISO 37101 standard. The goal is to integrate the environmental, social, and economic efforts of the supply chain into a unified and measurable system, enhancing the value of the territory without burdening companies with new bureaucratic obligations. The project is based on constant investment in scientific research, biodiversity, and innovation in viticultural practices, ensuring transparency in communication and protection against greenwashing.
Milan Cortina 2026 and global promotion
In 2025, the Prosecco DOC Promotion Plan reached 39 countries with 382 events, generating 2.1 billion impressions, data that confirms the strength and reach of the program. The initiatives focused on consolidating the main markets, enriched by innovative activities that broadened their prospects:
- National Prosecco Week USA – 1,955 points of sale involved and over 258 million impressions
“This is Prosecco” anti-counterfeiting campaign in the UK - Expo Osaka 2025 – Official Sparkling Wine Partner of the Holy See Pavilion, contributing to the exhibition of Caravaggio’s “The Deposition of Christ” and Osaka Prosecco DOC Street, a pop-up store installed under the iconic Glico Man in Dotonbori
- Prosecco DOC Tram & Jam Sparkling Fest, a traveling party through the streets of Hong Kong, aboard a historic tram converted into the “Prosecco Express”
- Collaboration in Korea with actress Kim Yoor Young, famous face of the Squid Game series
- New markets of intervention – Brazil, India, Kazakhstan
In Italy, the partnership with Amerigo Vespucci on its arrival in Venice and the “Murales – Road to the Games” project stand out, an itinerary of 7 murals to celebrate Milan during its most significant events. From the opening night at La Scala in Milan to Fashion Week, Art Week, the Milan Summer Festival, and Christmas celebrations. The project will reach its peak during the Olympics, with the opening of an exclusive lounge in San Babila, designed to welcome athletes, fans, and curious visitors, and to host a collective exhibition featuring the works of the artists involved.
In fact, 2026 will see the Denomination take center stage as the Official Sparkling Wine Sponsor of Milano Cortina 2026, an extraordinary global showcase that will involve millions of enthusiasts and highlight the link between Italian wine excellence, territory, and lifestyle. 136 million impressions have already been generated in relation to this strategic partnership.
2026 objectives: value, balance, and sustainability
“There is no shortage of challenges for 2026,” explains President Guidolin. “First and foremost, we aim to consolidate the value of Prosecco DOC and ensure fair profitability for the entire supply chain, in a scenario that will require attention and adaptability. Sustainability is not only an ethical choice, but an essential tool for ensuring the future of the appellation and our international competitiveness. Only with a shared and certified approach can we enhance the work of everyone and strengthen the reputation of Prosecco DOC around the world.
The development of the Low Alcohol line (8-9 degrees) also continues, designed to respond to new consumption styles and meet a growing demand for lighter products, without compromising the quality and identity of the Denomination. An evolution,“ concludes Guidolin,” that goes hand in hand with our constant call for responsible and conscious consumption.”

Treviso, November 28, 2025. In recent years, growing market and local community demands for sustainability have led to the spread of numerous certification standards, creating a certain amount of confusion, especially for a designation such as Prosecco DOC, which comprises over 12,000 companies located in an area that also has other designations, each with its own criteria and approaches to sustainability.
To respond to this complexity, the Prosecco DOC Protection Consortium—after approval by the Board of Directors—has adopted an inclusive approach, which gives companies the freedom to choose the path most consistent with their capabilities and sensibilities, while enhancing the virtuous practices already in place along the supply chain and defining shared objectives.
This has given rise to the need to ‘engineer’ sustainability through a digital system capable of collecting and organizing in a unique way both production data (areas, grapes, bottles) and the certifications already obtained by companies. The model will process this information by assigning specific scores to the environmental, social, and economic impact of each company and, consequently, of the entire supply chain.
This approach falls within the definition of ‘sustainable community’ and pursues two main objectives: to measure the level of sustainability of the appellation in a shared and transparent manner and to identify concrete improvement strategies together.
At the same time, the Consortium continues to invest in research and training, which are essential tools for tangibly increasing the sustainability of the territory. To this end, it has already launched several projects in collaboration with universities, Veneto Agricoltura, and CREA, aimed at developing varieties that are more tolerant to disease and defense protocols with a lower impact.
To present this initiative, the Consortium—in collaboration with Crédit Agricole Italia, an institution with which it has entered into a partnership to promote the sustainability of businesses—invites all Prosecco DOC producers to a dedicated meeting:
Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 8:00 p.m.
Cantina Opitergium Vini – Viale Dalmazia 2, Oderzo (TV)

During the evening, the guidelines and training programs designed to support companies in adopting increasingly conscious and responsible practices will be presented. For organizational reasons, confirmation of participation is required: https://forms.gle/xWTgKTLDsBQFGLPK7
The Consortium confirms its role as a reference point in the field of sustainability and renews its commitment to providing tools, knowledge, and opportunities for discussion, convinced that only a shared path can strengthen the value of the appellation and its territory over time. In this sense, it hopes for broad and constructive participation by producers.
Rome, November 20, 2025 – Starting today, Prosecco DOC bottles will feature the new state seal with the Italian tricolor. The most widely consumed Italian wine in the world was the first to apply the new security seals.
The anti-counterfeiting tool and certified quality guarantee, produced by the Italian State Printing Works and Mint (IPZS), is now applied to all bottles of Prosecco, thus protecting Italian wines more effectively against counterfeiting.
Yesterday morning, Lorenzo Fontana, President of the Chamber of Deputies, Francesco Lollobrigida, Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Paolo Perrone, President of the Italian State Printing Works and Mint, and Giancarlo Guidolin, President of the Prosecco DOC Consortium, celebrated the affixing of the new seal on the first bottle of Prosecco DOC.
The Prosecco DOC Protection Consortium—the leader among Italian wine appellations in terms of volume and value, with an annual production of 660 million bottles—was the first to adopt the state labeling system for DOCG and DOC wines.
According to President Fontana: “Italy is the country with the highest quality food and wine in the world. Our products are imitated everywhere, so we must defend them. It is a battle we fight every day: it is important that the state carefully protects national products because there will always be those who try to imitate them, taking away our economic and cultural heritage.
Minister Lollobrigida said: “Thanks to our collaboration with the State Printing Office, we are able to guarantee the quality of our products worldwide, starting, of course, with our finest products. Today, we are presenting the seal for Prosecco, an extraordinary Italian wine—the best-selling Italian wine in the world—which is thus further protected from any possible imitation. We want those who buy an Italian product to find exactly what they expect, which is why we offer an additional guarantee: a clearly visible mark that cannot be imitated in any way, strengthening the entire supply chain and protecting its added value, made up of quality, work, identity, culture, and tradition.”
For the President of the Prosecco DOC Protection Consortium, Giancarlo Guidolin: “We are honored to be the first to adopt the tricolor band, a concrete symbol of the quality and authenticity of Prosecco DOC. This recognition confirms the Consortium’s commitment to consumers. The QR code and advanced traceability make each bottle more secure and transparent, strengthening the protection of the designation. The first labels will be applied to special bottles for the upcoming Winter Olympics, the perfect occasion to celebrate Prosecco DOC and its unbreakable bond with the territory, an expression of Italian excellence recognized throughout the world”.
“We have placed our band with the symbol of the Italian state and a tricolor flag on the bottles, as indicated by the Ministry of Food Sovereignty and Forestry, and in agreement with the supply chain. The new state label for DOCG and DOC wines is a powerful anti-counterfeiting tool and a guarantee of certified quality: protecting our Made in Italy means enhancing it. I would like to thank President Fontana and Minister Lollobrigida for attending today’s celebration of the first affixing of the marks on Prosecco bottles”, said Paolo Perrone, President of the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato.

Future and tradition. In the name of community and conviviality. This is the essence of “Three of Cups: tradition toasts the future,” a project conceived by director Carlo Guttadauro for PROSECCO DOC with the aim of promoting Treviso’s popular culture through an immersive experience that combines card games, tavern conviviality, and the magic of Prosecco DOC bubbles.
Giulio, the innkeeper and heir to an ancient farming tradition, guides guests on a journey that begins in the ethereal vineyards of Glera, where his grandfather explained the value of the Three of Cups: a symbol of the three fundamental steps for a perfect Prosecco—the environment, the vine, and the hand of man. In the short film, this same deck accompanies an engaging wine tour, the “Trevisane Experience,” which recounts the game of cards in the cellar as a pretext for connecting with roots and the past.
Conceived by PROSECCO DOC and ANAM CARA COMUNICAZIONE to convey the authenticity of a territory and its roots, “Tre di Coppe” transforms the historic Treviso playing cards into tickets to an intergenerational story. From the simple gesture of exchanging a hand of cards to a shared toast, the tavern—the beating heart of community life—becomes a stage for memories and new emotions.

All this takes place in the setting of the tavern, a place that is not only a meeting point for people but, as the Spanish poet Fernandez de Ribera wrote, a true mirror of existence. A place with a unique charm, the tavern is a place where the bond between territory and popular culture lives and is strengthened. In addition to its playful dimension, “Tre di Coppe” aims to spread awareness of this bond, inviting anyone passing through Treviso to sit down at a tavern table. Here, between a taste of Prosecco and a game of cards, the identity of a place that makes conviviality its most authentic strength is strengthened.
All that remains is to wait until September to appreciate all the nuances of this cinematic work, which will be broadcast on the social media channels of the Prosecco DOC Consortium.
Cortina d’Ampezzo, in the heart of the province of Belluno, is an integral part of the Prosecco Designation, and the Consortium has always proudly promoted initiatives taking place in the Pearl of the Dolomites, such as the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, for which Prosecco DOC is the Official Sparkling Wine. At the end of the last summer before the long-awaited event, Prosecco DOC has chosen to support two initiatives that best combine gastronomic excellence and sport with the local area.
The Queen of Taste
On 13rd September, Cortina will host the ninth edition of The Queen of Taste, the festival that celebrates mountain cuisine as an authentic excellence of the territory, promoting the encounter between the culinary tradition of Ampezzo and its most innovative reinterpretations in a fusion and contemporary key, which will once again receive the support of the Consortium this year.
The day will begin with a breakfast at high altitude at the Col Druscié Refuge, created by Master Pastry Chef Massimo Alverà, a member of the Chef Team Cortina, together with Master Pastry Chefs Francesco Ballico and Marco Battaglia.
Afterwards, Prosecco DOC will accompany guests to the aperitif prelude to the Cortina Chef Tour: a five-stage itinerant lunch among the enchanting landscapes of the Dolomites. The protagonists will be the chefs of the Chef Team Cortina – Luca Menardi, Federico Rovacchi, Nicola Bellodis, Carlo Festini Cucco, Graziano Prest, Luigi Dariz, Fabio Pompanin and Luigino Anzanello – accompanied by special guests.
Among them is Chef Enrico Bartolini, an icon of haute cuisine with 14 Michelin stars (first in Italy and second in the world), who will create the brand new “Piatto Cortina” for the occasion. A benchmark in Milanese cuisine with his three-star restaurant at MUDEC, Bartolini will use this new dish to tell the story of the two cities, united by creativity, excellence and, now, the Olympic spirit.
The grand finale is expected to take place at the prestigious Hotel Ancora, in the heart of Cortina.
The companies taking part in this initiative are: Brilla!, Cantine Maschio, Casa Vinicola Bosco Malera, Italian Wine Brands, La Marca, Le Rughe, Masottina, Ponte 1948, Serena Wines 1881 and Villa Sandi.

Victory in Poland in a case of GI infringement in a non-agri-food context
Sistema Prosecco announces an important victory in its efforts to ensure the correct use, in Italy and abroad, of the term Prosecco and the appellations protected by its three member consortia: Consorzio di Tutela Prosecco DOC, Consorzio di Tutela Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG and Consorzio Vini Asolo Montello.
In a ruling handed down on 11 June by the Regional Court of Warsaw, the violation of the Prosecco designation in Poland was recognised on beauty products of a well-known US multinational, active on the local market through a distributor, against whom proceedings were brought. The trial ended in the first instance with a decision – still subject to appeal by the other party – in favour of the Consortia, represented in court by the Prosecco DOC Consortium. This ruling confirms the prohibition of the use of the designation to distinguish and promote body products, including on their packaging and online.
The Court ruled that such use of the term “Prosecco” constitutes evocation, exploitation of the reputation of the designation and misleading communication to consumers. This is the first time in Poland that a judgment has been handed down on the merits of a case involving the infringement of a geographical indication in the field of non-agricultural products. Following this success, achieved with the support of the international team at the law firm Bird & Bird, Sistema Prosecco will also focus its attention on the services sector, where the misuse of the term “Prosecco” is equally widespread.
The Court also confirmed the Consortium’s full legitimacy to take action to challenge not only the violation of the designation but also unfair competition offences: these powers are inherent in the nature of the Consortium, as the representative of the interests of producers.
Statements
“The Consortium welcomes the Court’s decision, which confirms the effectiveness of the protection strategy shared with Sistema Prosecco and implemented over the years. – Comments Giancarlo Guidolin, President of the Prosecco DOC Protection Consortium, supported by Presidents Franco Adami of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG Protection Consortium and Michele Noal of the Asolo Montello Wine Consortium. ‘In particular, this action sets a significant precedent for the protection of GIs at European level. In fact, the recognition of a violation of the Prosecco designation in a product category far removed from wine is not a foregone conclusion.’
Giancarlo Moretti Polegato, President of Sistema Prosecco, states firmly: ‘As reiterated by the Court, the term Prosecco can only be used for products that comply with the production regulations for each designation. For this reason, the three Consortia will continue to monitor and act in synergy and with determination against any form of abuse and exploitation of the designations, in any product category, in order to protect and enhance the work of the entire production chain.’
