A debut to remember, capped off with a significant record.
The season for the Prosecco DOC Shockwave3 got off to a flying start with a victory in real time, thereby claiming the Line Honors in the 40th edition of the Brindisi-Corfu International Regatta. The Maxi Yacht 90, owned by the Monfalcone Yacht Club with Claudio Demartis as owner and co-owner Pompeo Tria, repeated its 2024 triumph, but this time setting a new all-time record for the event. Prosecco DOC Shockwave3 covered the 104 nautical miles of the course in 6h23’57”, breaking the previous record of 8h07’06” set 21 years ago in 2005 by the 60-foot monohull Pegaso, skippered by Paolo Montefusco.
“We’re truly satisfied with this outstanding performance,” commented skipper and helmsman Mitja Kosmina immediately after the race, “and with having made the most of the favorable weather conditions. I truly believe this record will stand for many years.” Following Kosmina’s lead was tactician Andrea Micalli: “We managed the race from start to finish in a superb manner, without making any mistakes and sailing at an average of 16 knots. We managed to reach impressive speeds, as evidenced by the top speed of 31.5 knots.”
There is also a great deal of satisfaction in the words of owner Claudio Demartis: “This was truly one of those days when I would have loved to be on board. I am truly pleased with the excellent work done by the crew, who managed to break the distance record after 21 years, taking it away from my dear friend Paolo Montefusco. Our crew has proved to be a great team with room to grow, and the boat, which we upgraded this winter, has proven to be even more competitive. Special praise goes to the Brindisi Sailing Club, which once again organized the event superbly this year; we feel right at home at this event.”
Over the 104 nautical miles separating the port of Brindisi from the island of Corfu, the crew of Prosecco DOC Shockwave3 consisted of: Mitja Kosmina, Andrea Micalli, Paolo Piccione, Stefano Spangaro, Andrea Bussani, Francesco Rigon, Samuele Pontani, Vitjan Robi Bužan, Fulvio Manuelli, Ivan Valenta, Claudio Carraro, Matteo Groppo, Giulio Bicego, Giorgio Rossetti Cosulich, Matteo Leghissa, Alberto Broggi, Nicola Dodich, and Luca Gallas.
The Prosecco DOC Shockwave3 season, which began in Brindisi, will continue on July 5 with the Aegean 600.
