Rome, November 20, 2025 – Starting today, Prosecco DOC bottles will feature the new state seal with the Italian tricolor. The most widely consumed Italian wine in the world was the first to apply the new security seals.
The anti-counterfeiting tool and certified quality guarantee, produced by the Italian State Printing Works and Mint (IPZS), is now applied to all bottles of Prosecco, thus protecting Italian wines more effectively against counterfeiting.
Yesterday morning, Lorenzo Fontana, President of the Chamber of Deputies, Francesco Lollobrigida, Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Paolo Perrone, President of the Italian State Printing Works and Mint, and Giancarlo Guidolin, President of the Prosecco DOC Consortium, celebrated the affixing of the new seal on the first bottle of Prosecco DOC.
The Prosecco DOC Protection Consortium—the leader among Italian wine appellations in terms of volume and value, with an annual production of 660 million bottles—was the first to adopt the state labeling system for DOCG and DOC wines.
According to President Fontana: “Italy is the country with the highest quality food and wine in the world. Our products are imitated everywhere, so we must defend them. It is a battle we fight every day: it is important that the state carefully protects national products because there will always be those who try to imitate them, taking away our economic and cultural heritage.
Minister Lollobrigida said: “Thanks to our collaboration with the State Printing Office, we are able to guarantee the quality of our products worldwide, starting, of course, with our finest products. Today, we are presenting the seal for Prosecco, an extraordinary Italian wine—the best-selling Italian wine in the world—which is thus further protected from any possible imitation. We want those who buy an Italian product to find exactly what they expect, which is why we offer an additional guarantee: a clearly visible mark that cannot be imitated in any way, strengthening the entire supply chain and protecting its added value, made up of quality, work, identity, culture, and tradition.”
For the President of the Prosecco DOC Protection Consortium, Giancarlo Guidolin: “We are honored to be the first to adopt the tricolor band, a concrete symbol of the quality and authenticity of Prosecco DOC. This recognition confirms the Consortium’s commitment to consumers. The QR code and advanced traceability make each bottle more secure and transparent, strengthening the protection of the designation. The first labels will be applied to special bottles for the upcoming Winter Olympics, the perfect occasion to celebrate Prosecco DOC and its unbreakable bond with the territory, an expression of Italian excellence recognized throughout the world”.
“We have placed our band with the symbol of the Italian state and a tricolor flag on the bottles, as indicated by the Ministry of Food Sovereignty and Forestry, and in agreement with the supply chain. The new state label for DOCG and DOC wines is a powerful anti-counterfeiting tool and a guarantee of certified quality: protecting our Made in Italy means enhancing it. I would like to thank President Fontana and Minister Lollobrigida for attending today’s celebration of the first affixing of the marks on Prosecco bottles”, said Paolo Perrone, President of the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato.
