Sustainability as a mission for the future

On the stage of the Teatro Puccini at the 26th Merano Wine Festival, the president of the Consorzio Prosecco DOC, Stefano Zanette, received the "Special Ecofriendly Prize 2018" launched by the Touring Club's Guida Vinibuoni d'Italia.

"Thank you for this award which I particularly appreciate as it recognises the Consortium's serious commitment to broader sustainability, which this year has led to precise recommendations to modify the Prosecco production specification.  An unprecedented event in the world of DO, Denominations of Origin," declared Zanette as he received the prize from Alessandro Bocchio of Verallia, a giant in food-grade glass and joint provider of the award with Amorim Cork Italia and Repower. 
 
"For a number of years the Ecofriendly Prize has been awarded by Guida Vinibuoni d'Italia to ethical winegrowers and consortiums with outstanding initiatives for environmental sustainability," explains editor Mario Busso, "because understanding the type and extent of problems related to environmental protection, and taking measures to minimise the impact of business activities and reduce related socio-economic costs, helps to promote a new sense of responsibility towards consumers and to identify opportunities to innovate and save."

So there is the motivation:  the Ecofriendly Vinibuoni d'Italia Prize 2018 goes to Consorzio Prosecco DOC for its use of the 'Equalitas' territory standard, based on a holistic outlook that satisfies the three pillars of sustainability: environmental, social and economic
